Featured artifact: U.S. Army 10th Cavalry Helmet
This U.S. Army dress hat of the 10th Cavalry features an orange plume, which indicates the wearer to be a member of the Signal Corps. While this style of helmet was adopted in 1881, the 10th Cavalry (also known as the "Buffalo Soldiers") African American Army unit dates back to 1866.
