“Merci Train: What the French People have given to America and to Oregon”
John Irving and Bob McElroy
After World War II, the French government sent 49 French railroad boxcars filled with tens of thousands of gifts of gratitude from as many individual French citizens, in appreciation for the relief efforts for France sent by Americans during the war. John and Bob tell the story of the Merci Train’s arrival and distribution among the states. Oregon Merci Train gifts will be on display.
