Travel the World at the Benton County Museum!
This summer travel the world at the Benton County Historical Museum during Free Family Day at the Museum! Enjoy a variety of performances, arts and crafts, dancing and music, scavenger hunt and hands-on learning activities. So pack a picnic and bring the whole family for a free day of fun at the museum.
On Saturday July 22rd from 10:00a.m. – 3:30p.m., a free dayof activities will be happening at the Benton County Historical Museum in Philomath, themed to the museum’s exhibitions ‘Around the World from 80 Countries’ and the ‘World Tour of Textiles’. The day’s events take you around the world with a celebration of cultural diversity.

Walk the Labyrinth, Watch Dancers and Drummers.
Beginning at 10:00a.m. the museum’s front and back lawns will be filled with dancers, demonstrations and other activities. Learn to Hula with Aloha Hula NW, watch the East Dream Chinese Dance Company and 4-H Folklorico Mexicana dance traditional dances. You can walk and learn all about labyrinths, and explore a variety of culture kits from the Corvallis Multicultural Center. Inside explore the museum’s galleries which are filled with objects and textiles from around the world. Children and their families can speak to weavers and spinners, learn fun-facts about the Silk Road and, do hands-on activities.
From Spain to India and Mexico. In the afternoon Corvallis Guitar Society's' Artistic Director Berto Boyd will do a Flamenco guitar demonstration and lecture on songs and dances from Spain. Then we’ll travel to India and enjoy Bharatanatyam, an Indian Classical Dance performed by members of the Corvallis Natya Dance Academy. But we don’t stop our travels there! Next we go to Mexico with dances by Ballet Folklorico Alma Latino and watch rope tricks performed by Antonio Huerta a traditional Mexican Charro (Cowboy). The Benton County Public Library Bookmobile will be visiting with free hand-on craft projects and books. The day closes with a performance by the Waldorf School Taiko Drummers.

Bring the whole family and a picnic to enjoy a fun-filled totally immersive experience at the Benton County Historical Museum. Food and Beverages can be purchased from onsite food carts. No alcohol or pets allowed.
The museum located at 1101 Main Street, Philomath, is fully air conditioned, handicap accessible and has restroom facilities.
