Museum Exhibition:

The "Beauty Secrets" exhibition of New York Beauty quilts from The Volckening Collection demonstrates the history and artistic evolution of one patchwork quilt design over the past 150 years. "The chronology of quilts in this collection represents a microcosmic view of quilt history, and the pattern's life story speaks to changing times in America" says quilt expert Bill Volckening.

Quilt Workshop:
The New York Beauty Quilt Pattern Saturday, October 1, 9:30 - 4

The New York Beauty quilt pattern, known by a variety of names for over 150 years, is a bold and graphic design. Eilene Cross is teaching a workshop to accompany the Benton County Historical Museum exhibition of New York Beauty quilts that will help you master the techniques needed to create one of these challenging quilts.

Based on a Mountain Mist batting company pattern from the 1930s, this complex quilt pattern challenges the maker by bringing together precision point-matching and curved piecing techniques.

In this class you will learn the skills necessary to use paper piecing techniques to execute and assure really sharp points. We will practice several techniques for handling curved piecing including the revolutionary No Pinning method as well as more traditional methods.  You will also learn how to do traditional Hand Piecing to triumph over tricky set-in and Y seaming.
