Sources
The data base was transcribed from parts of business directories, photocopies of which are in the BCHM collection.
Generally speaking, these are pages for Corvallis, Monroe, and Philomath. Because a copy of classified pages for Benton and Linn counties in 1913 is among these pages, Alsea, Bellfountain, Blodgett, Kings Valley, Summit, Wells, and Wren show up for this year. Since these classified pages have street addresses, all were added to 1913-1914 city listings in square brackets, rather than duplicating entries.

Where a business name (almost always a governmental entity) or a business type was obvious and not indicated, information has been supplied in square brackets.
Where a listing could appear in more than one location in the alphabet, its position is recorded in the Notes field.
An occasional editorial [sic] has been used to indicate that a name is entered as found, even though variants exist in other years. An egregious example of this is Baesen, Balsen, Basen, and Beasen!
